I am having people over to my house on Thanksgiving and I want to make it an easy clean-up...ie: paper plates.  Is this ok?  My mother would kill me if she found out, but I really don't want to spend 8 hours on clean up.  Any good suggestions out there?

I say use them!  I've seen some nicely decorated paper/plastic plates for the holidays.  Why waste all that time cleaning up??!?!

I don't agree on this one girls.....Thanksgiving is just one of those special days where real dishes/cutlery should be used.  However, I'm super formal when it comes to these types of things.  BUT, in my house there is a rule that the cook DOES NOT do the cleaning.  So, after dinner I will be lounging in my PJ's with a full belly while DH does the dishes !

I think I might use that rule here also!  Thanks for all the advice!

My MIL manages to throw a great Thanksgiving with disposable plates and utensils every year. Her secret: She buys the ones that look like the real thing.

I also like the “cook doesn’t clean-up rule”.

I think either option is do-able. Personally since there will be plenty of dishes already I always like the "one who cooks does not do the dishes." Personally paper plates (especially the nice ones I think can be fine). My mom would drop dead too, better not ask her when she is hear next week!!!! LOL, she used to do close to 20 ppl for hoilidays and never did I see a paper plate, she did 3-4 course dinners!

I like using the real thing. Otherwise, the plates just sit in my cabinet, unused. Besides, I think not using paper plates is better for the environment. I have to admit there are some really beautiful paper plates out there, though!

I would say, go for the real. I agree, it is better for the environment. And this is the time to enjoy the items you already own. Don't worry about matching for a larger group, an eclectic table looks great.
